Support local groups with Community Choices funding

Even the biggest hearts need a little boost and Essential Energy is proud to give back to our real local heroes and the grassroots organisations which support communities through our Community Choices Program.

This year we have $175,000 in grants available across 20 zones in our network area, with funding of up to $2,500 per successful group.

We need your help to decide where support is needed most. You can have your say by nominating and voting for charities, registered not-for-profit groups and community groups that most deserve a little boost.

There are a range of grants available in each of the 20 zones, ranging from $600 to $2,500. The value of each grant is determined by the number of community votes a nominated group receives. This year we have a new category for groups located in small communities with a population less than 20,000. There will be 10 prizes of $500 for the groups who receive the highest votes in the Small Communities category. Community voting will take place after nominations close and submitted nominations have been reviewed by Essential Energy.

Groups can nominate themselves directly or if you know of a group making a positive impact in your community, nominate them! The nomination process takes around ten minutes. To nominate, you’ll need to:

  • Read the program's Terms and Conditions and FAQs to make sure the nominated group is eligible
  • Have the group's details ready including the group's ABN (if any), postal address and details of the main contact
  • Mention what the grant will be spent on if the group is successful
  • Let the group know you are nominating them for the Essential Energy Community Choices program. If you’re unsure on how to complete the nomination on behalf of a group, save the nomination and send through the email you receive with the link to your saved nomination to the group so they can assist

Note: Groups can only be nominated once per zone. If you do not work at or represent the group you’re nominating, an email will be sent to the group contact with the nomination details including your contact details.
